Join us for this exciting two-day screen printing session where you will learn how to screen print using photo emulsion and your own design. Screen printing (also known as silk- screening) is the process in which ink is pushed through a mesh screen that is mounted in a frame and onto a porous surface like paper or fabric. In this two-day workshop, you will learn the basics of emulsion screen printing, from printing positives to exposing screens, and finally pulling a small edition of your own custom prints. Screen printing can be adapted to a multitude of purposes and is a great skill for any artist or creative to have at their disposal. When you sign up, start thinking of ideas and we’ll send more details about how to compose your design as the workshop approaches. This class is great for beginner printmakers and those who need a refresher on the basics of using emulsion. The atmosphere will be collaborative and supportive, so come as you are and take some new skills with you!

Learn the basics of this simple non-toxic printmaking technique developed in the 15th century. It is the most direct of all intaglio techniques and only requires scratching your image into a metal or plastic plate with a sharp needle. Drypoint technique is valued for its fresh and expressive lines which create a deep richness to an image. In a hands-on experience, workshop participants will learn the fundamentals of plate-making, use of simple drypoint tools, inking using nontoxic inks, press printing techniques, and exploring the possibilities of adding monoprint and chine collé/collaging to the image. In the second session, we spend the day experimenting with printing. No previous printmaking experience required.

In this class, we will explore the perks and limitations of printing with riso. We'll cover everything from choosing the right paper for your project, to processing digital designs for print, the specifics of fine-tuning settings on the machine, and tips for working within the bounds of this medium to produce beautiful multicolor art prints, zines, posters etc. Each student will have the opportunity to develop their own design from scratch or make use of an existing graphic with the ultimate goal of choosing a color palette and printing an edition of 25 art prints by the end of the workshop. The instructor will outline how to separate designs into individual color layers using Photoshop if needed, as well as physical techniques for creating color layers with the use of tracing paper. Other experimental techniques will be discussed, including playful uses of the scanner bed, incorporating interesting texture layers into designs, and messing with non-traditional compositions in color.

Join us for a four-session introductory wheel throwing class! Over the course of four weeks, beginner potters will be guided through the entire process from throwing on the wheel to the final glazing stage. This process has many steps that your instructor will demonstrate and guide you through. You will first learn how to center the clay and begin forming your vessels. During the next sessions, the vessels will be trimmed (creating a base). Verge staff will do the first firing (bisque) and then you will learn about several glazing options and glaze all of your creations. You will have plenty of time to practice and staff will fire everything for you to pick up at a later date. No previous experience is needed. All tools and materials included in registration!
