Intaglio
Why did Goya, Picasso, Degas, Kollwitz , Escher, Jasper Johns, Kentridge, Durer,
Blake, Rembrandt, Whistler, Lautrec, Hopper, Warhol, Dali, Matisse, Hockney among
others gravitate to this eclectic process?
Intaglio printmaking (etching, drypoint, engraving, mezzotint and aquatint) allows a
creative process that gives rise to so many possibilities! The uniqueness of the line,
the diversity of values, and the tactile experience. All artists are motivated by the
process alone. Another magic experience of making multi originals.
In this class we will explore many of the process, techniques and materials that give
this art form is captivating appeal. All areas of intaglio will be reviewed so as to give
you the vocabulary to continue to working in this genre and delight in your
invention.

About the Instructor
Howard Levine has been an active printmaker for the past fifty-seven years. Howard taught printmaking and drawing for Sierra College for almost twenty-five years. At Carriage House Press, Grass Valley he had students engaged in all processes: intaglio, relief, litho and monotype for over 45 years. Howard has a M.A. from San Francisco State with an emphasis on printmaking, mainly lithography. He also is a painter, drawer and for-site artist. After dismantling his long time studio and gallery in Grass Valley, CA. he and his wife moved to Sacramento and joined Myrtle Press.

Cancellation and Refunds Policy
Verge Center for the Arts reserves the right to cancel classes, to change instructors, and to make other changes that may become necessary to ensure a quality experience for participants. In the event that a class is canceled, we will contact all registrants and offer the option of transferring to another available session, or receiving a full refund.
If a participant wishes to withdraw from a class, they must do so in writing at least seven days prior to the first class meeting to receive a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. Withdrawals occurring within seven days prior to the first class meeting will receive a refund of 50 percent of the total class fee. No refunds are given to withdrawals that occur 24 hours before the class begins. Transfers are not accepted after a class begins. Membership fees are non-refundable. Please note we are unable to issue cash refunds.
