Fundamentals of Art Series

Have you been wanting to explore your artistic side but are unsure where to start? Our Fundamentals of Art series seeks to give you an easily digestible introduction to 4 over-arching artistic mediums to do just that! All materials are provided by Verge.

When you register for the full series you secure your spot in each of the 4 different classes - Fundamentals of Clay, Fundamentals of Painting, Fundamentals of Printmaking, and Fundamentals of Drawing. You will also receive 2 credits to a lab of your choosing (or 1 to each) - Clay Lab or Figure Drawing - to continue practicing the skills you will learn in this series!

Fundamentals of Clay

This two-day workshop will give you a quick introduction to both the potter's wheel and basic handbuilding practices. On the first day, CJ will teach you how to center and throw your clay on the wheel. Day 2 will be all about handbuilding pinch pots and small animal figures where you will learn how to properly attach clay add surface decoration. All completed pieces will be bisque-fired by Verge and available for pick-up at a later date.

WHEN: January 11 & 12, 5-8pm

INSTRUCTOR: CJ Jones

Fundamentals of Painting

In this two-day workshop, Caiti will walk you through the process of creating a still life painting from start to finish. You will learn to sketch your design, color mix, create depth and perspective in your work and overall how to bring your work to life!

WHEN: January 18 & 19, 5-8pm

INSTRUCTOR: Caiti Chan

Fundamentals of Printmaking

Come learn how to screen print using photo emulsion and your own design from Ashley! Screen printing (also known as silk- screening) is the process in which ink is pushed through a mesh screen that is mounted in a frame and onto a porous surface like paper or fabric. In this one-day workshop, you will learn the basics of emulsion screen printing, from printing positives to exposing screens, and finally pulling a small edition of your own custom prints. When you sign up, start thinking of ideas and we’ll send more details about how to compose your design as the workshop approaches. The atmosphere will be collaborative and supportive, so come as you are and take some new skills with you!

WHEN: January 25, 5-8pm

INSTRUCTOR: Ashley Ortiz-Diaz

Fundamentals of Drawing

WHEN: February 1, 5-8pm
