Fired Expressions: Raku & Surface Design Workshop

Explore the vibrant world of ceramics and surface design in this hands-on workshop, which combines clay hand-building, surface design, and raku firing.
Attendees will craft their own form from clay, learning the essentials of shaping, coiling, paddling, and refining their form. Throughout the workshop, we’ll explore surface design techniques using underglazes, allowing participants to add their creative design to each piece.
On the last day, the clay forms will be raku-fired, a unique process that involves removing pottery from the kiln while it's still hot and placing it in combustible materials to create distinctive, crackled, and smoky finishes.
By the end of the workshop, participants will create one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces with raku-fired finishes and unique surface designs on their form, leaving with a deeper understanding of the interplay between technique, process, and creative expression in ceramics.
